Island of Aegna as a nature reserve
The Island of Aegna is located in the north-eastern part of the Gulf of Tallinn, in the close vicinity of Viimsi Peninsula. It is a landscape reserve with an area of 293 hectares.
The earliest reference made to Aegna dates back to 1297 when Erik Menved, the King of Denmark, prohibited felling timber there. However, an exceptional cult stone with a hollow on it, and a stone labyrinth called the City of Jerusalem reveal a considerably older settlement than written records do.
On the island, you can see boulders under protection, fortifications and an old cemetery. There are also two beaches with campsites and bonfire areas and three nature trails on Aegna. Additionally, you can book a tour; check for a schedule here.
