Flavours of Northwestern Estonia
Looking west from the capital across Harju County, you’ll find a landscape where bog forests, stony fields, and meadows meet hundreds of kilometres of sandy coastline.
Spring here brings out fresh flavours with birch sap and wild garlic. In summer and autumn, nature reveals its purest flavours, as pine forests and bogs abound with berries and mushrooms ready to be picked and savoured straight from the wild. The coast beckons with vitamin-rich rose hips, and the alvars with an aromatic hint of juniper. Such a diverse land nurtures plants and produce unique to the place and offers every reason to enjoy moving and spending time outdoors.
The cuisine of Northwestern Estonia is genuine and rich in taste yet still waiting to be discovered. It is here that passionate small producers, cozy cafés, Michelin-recommended restaurants, and an active network of farm markets come together. What unites them is a love for local ingredients, attention to seasonality, and a desire to present it all in a warm and welcoming way.
The food region offers discoveries for nature lovers, independent explorers, spa holidaymakers, as well as food enthusiasts and gourmets alike.
